About Rx Annotated

Rx Annotated is a free, independent set of study notes and practice cases for the MPJE® (Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination), the pharmacy-law exam NABP develops for boards of pharmacy. It is study material for a licensing exam, not legal advice.

§ 1 What each page is checked against

Two kinds of document stand behind these pages. What the exam is, costs and allows comes from NABP’s own publications; what the law says comes from federal sources anyone can open.

Candidate bulletin
NABP's NAPLEX/MPJE bulletin: how to apply, the Authorization to Test, test day, results, retakes and fees.
Competency Statements
what each of the four MPJE competency areas covers, and the instruction on which law to answer by.
Content outlines
the current outline and the new one NABP has published for exams taken on or after March 1, 2027.
Pass-rate reports
NABP's yearly MPJE pass rates for graduates of ACPE-accredited US programs.
Federal law
the eCFR, Title 21 (the FDA and DEA regulations), the Federal Register for rule changes and their effective dates, and FDA pages.

Each study page prints the date its facts were last checked, right under its title. Figures that change, such as fees, dates and which jurisdictions use which exam, also carry an as of date and a link to the document they came from, so you can see whether a newer version exists before you rely on one.

§ 2 What the practice cases cover, and what they leave out

Every case in the casebook carries one of two tags. Federal rule means the answer comes from federal law. Multistate principle means the answer reflects a principle shared across states rather than the text of any one state's law. No state's own law is covered, in the cases or in the notes.

The notes are organized by NABP's competency areas; the study guide shows how they fit together, and the federal-law notes collect the rules that apply in every state.

§ 3 Independence from NABP and the boards

Rx Annotated is not affiliated with or endorsed by NABP or any board of pharmacy. NABP appears on these pages only to name the exam and to cite the document a fact came from. Your e-Profile, your Authorization to Test and your result sit with NABP, and this site cannot see or change any of them; the contact page lists where each kind of question goes.
